The range

The Peak Fires range

A solid-steel kitset fireplace in two material options — with or without the Te Mata Peak silhouette cutout. Same quality, same build, same price either way.

The Peak
(Original design)
Features the Te Mata Peak ridgeline cutout — the silhouette of Rongokako built into the steel. Our original and most popular fireplace.
The Standard
(Clean box design)
The same solid-steel build without the cutout. Bold, square, and purposeful — a fireplace that lets the fire do the talking.

All photos show mild steel — Corten develops a rich rust patina over 3–9 months. Mild steel begins rusting in around 4 weeks.

Cook with fire

Add the swing tray grill

Fold-out cooking grate on a swing arm — positioned directly over the fire. Grill, sear, and cook outdoors the way it was meant to be done. +$200 on any model.

Built to last outdoors

Designed to weather

Both mild steel and Corten are designed to rust naturally outdoors. The patina builds over months into a rich, earthy tone that only improves with time and use.

Who we are

Born from
the sleeping giant

Te Mata Peak ridgeline — Rongokako

The idea came from looking up at Te Mata Peak — the ridge line that forms the outline of Rongokako, the Sleeping Giant. That shape became the basis for our original Peak Fireplace and sits behind the name we chose.

We're a small family-run business based in Hawke's Bay. We focus on designs that are simple, purposeful, and built for purpose — from high-quality steel, to bring your outdoor area to life.

Every fireplace ships as a flat-pack kitset. Bolt together in around fifteen minutes. Designed to weather naturally, and look better with every season.

Material choice

Mild steel or Corten?

Both weather naturally outdoors — the difference is how they age and how long that protection lasts.

Mild steel texture — early rust forming
Mild Steel

From $1,900 NZD

Corten steel texture — rich settled patina

Common questions

FAQ

What size is the fireplace? +
One size: 1400mm (H) × 900mm (W) × 500mm (D). Assembled weight is approximately 180 kg. Arrives flat-packed on a pallet.
How long does assembly take? +
Around 15 minutes with two people. Panels bolt together with included M10 bolts, washers, and a spanner — no tools needed beyond what's in the box. Full instructions included.
What's the difference between mild steel and Corten? +
Both weather to a rich rust patina outdoors. Mild steel rusts quickly and fully within 2–3 months. Corten develops a denser, self-protecting oxide layer over 3–9 months that actively resists further corrosion — it's the more durable long-term choice.
What surface do I need? +
Set on a solid, non-flammable surface — concrete, pavers, or compacted gravel. Avoid placing directly on timber decking unless adequate heat protection is in place.
Do you deliver nationwide? +
Yes — pallet freight anywhere in New Zealand. Freight costs vary by region and we'll confirm costs when we discuss your order. Local Hawke's Bay pickup is also available.
How long does it take to build? +
Allow 4–6 weeks from confirmed order to completion. We'll keep you updated throughout and contact you as soon as it's ready.
