Who we are

Born from
the sleeping giant

Te Mata Peak ridgeline — Rongokako

The idea came from looking up at Te Mata Peak — the ridge line that forms the outline of Rongokako, the Sleeping Giant. That shape became the basis for our original Peak Fireplace and sits behind the name we chose.

We're a small family-run business based in Hawke's Bay. We focus on designs that are simple, purposeful, and built to last — from high-quality steel, to bring your outdoor area to life.

Every fireplace ships as a flat-pack kitset. Two people. Fifteen minutes. Everything included.

Material choice

Mild steel or Corten?

Both materials weather naturally outdoors. The difference is how they age — and how long that protection lasts.

Common questions

FAQ

What are the exact dimensions? +
Both models share the same height and depth: 1400mm (H) × 500mm (D). The Small is 600mm wide; the Large is 900mm wide. Total assembled weight is approximately 180 kg.
What surface do I need? +
Set on a solid, non-flammable surface — concrete, pavers, or compacted gravel. Avoid placing directly on timber decking unless adequate heat protection is in place underneath.
Do I need two people to assemble? +
Yes — the back panel is around 35 kg, other panels 12–20 kg each. Two people makes it safe and straightforward. Assembly takes roughly 15 minutes. We recommend assembling in or near the final position.
How does delivery work? +
Your fireplace arrives by pallet freight. We arrange delivery once your balance is paid — we'll confirm freight costs to your address before you commit. Local Hawke's Bay pickup is also available.
Do you deliver anywhere in NZ? +
Yes — pallet freight nationwide. Costs vary by region and will be confirmed at balance payment time. If you're local to Hawke's Bay, pickup from our fabricator can be arranged.
When will custom cutouts be available? +
Custom designs on The Standard are temporarily paused while we're away for a few months. Use the order form to leave an enquiry and we'll be in touch as soon as we reopen — likely within a few months.
